My 2" Tesla coil. It is powered by "half" a flyback supply. It doesn't have much power, so it's quite safe for playing around.

The output current of the flyback is rectified by six diodes (2 x 3 diodes
in parallel). Note that the tank circuit is only connected to the "hot"
side of the flyback, there's no second connection to the grounded side. Well,
it works best this way...
The spark gap consists of just two Al rods - no fancy gap required at these
power levels. The gap is housed in a small wooden box to block the bright light.
